Caya® gel is a diaphragm gel that needs to be used in combination with the Caya diaphragm.
The contraceptive efficacy of the Caya® Diaphragm in combination with the Caya® gel is comparable to the classic diaphragm.
The cellulose in the Caya® gel froms an extra protective barrier between the cervix and diaphragm.
If necessary, with repeated intercourse, additional gel can be introduced into the vagina using the applicator provided, with the Caya® pessary remaining in position.
The Caya® gel is odorless, colorless and water-soluble.
Caya® gel is identical to the Dutch Society for Sexual Reform (NVSH) gel, which was on the market from 1972 to 2002. As early as 1989 (Dittrich 1989), comparative studies of various pessary gels and creams found that this lactic acid-based remedy was as safe as products containing Nonoxynol-9, but that the risk of side effects was extremely low.
