How safe is Normaflor?

Normaflor vaginal tablets have been prescribed by gynecologists and general practitioners in the Netherlands since 2004. Normaflor is approved in the EU as a medical device. Moreover, clinical studies have demonstrated its safety and effectiveness even during pregnancy. The active ingredient, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), certainly contributes to this.

This may occur in a very small group of women, especially if they are menopausal. The acidifying effect of Normaflor causes what is known as “vaginal clearance. This causes dead vaginal skin cells to detach from the tissue and the discharge may even be slightly brownish in color. This does not cause any harm. Usually the watery discharge disappears after 2-3 days if you continue using Normaflor. Use a panty liner if necessary.

Unlike in the question posed above, you do not need to use a panty liner. Normaflor vaginal tablets are odorless and colorless. However, be careful with black underwear; this can sometimes turn a little lighter due to the acid content. Therefore, always insert Normaflor at night before going to bed.

Menstruation has a great influence on the acidity of the vagina. Therefore, do not use Normaflor during, but rather immediately after menstruation.

Normaflor vaginal tablets can be used during pregnancy. However, do so in consultation with your obstetrician, doctor or gynecologist. Normaflor can be used during breastfeeding.

Yes. In general, it is recommended that you take a missed tablet as soon as possible. You can then resume your regular dosing schedule starting the next day. You should not insert a double dose or two tablets at once per day to make up for the missed dose. It is important that you complete the complete treatment of 6 tablets per month.

You may have sexual contact during the use of Normaflor. However, we recommend delaying it since the man’s semen is neutral and may reduce the acidifying effect of Normaflor. If you wish to have intercourse, administer Normaflor afterwards or if you applied it before intercourse, at least an 8-hour period should be observed as the tablet dissolves slowly and can be felt otherwise.

It is better not to use Normaflor if you want to become pregnant. This is because acidity has an adverse effect on sperm. During ovulation, the vaginal environment naturally becomes less acidic to give fertilization a chance. In any case, it is advisable to completely treat your bacterial vaginosis before getting pregnant, given the risks of bacterial vaginosis on pregnancy.

Yes. Normaflor contains no fats or oils that can damage the condom.

No. The Normaflor vaginal tablet consists of small particles that ensure delayed release to the vagina. An ordinary vitamin C tablet dissolves almost immediately, releasing a large amount of ascorbic acid at once. This causes burning and damage to the delicate vaginal tissue.
