Caya Diaphragm
How do you use the Caya diaphragm?
Here is how to correctly use the Caya diaphragm in combination with the Caya gel. Caya is easy to use.
What is the Caya diaphragm?
The Caya pessary is a new and reliable contraceptive. Caya is inserted into the vagina as easily as a tampon. The pessary is placed just before the cervix and prevents sperm cells from entering the uterus. You always use the Caya pessary in combination with the Caya gel. You can insert the pessary 2 hours before you are going to have intercourse, which is handy because then you don’t have to have any annoying interruptions. This is not necessary, you can also insert the Caya pessary just before intercourse.
How reliable is the Caya Diaphargm?
Extensive research has been done on the reliability and ease of use. The Caya diaphragm is very easy to insert and in combination with the Caya gel the reliability is between 96% – 99%, when used correctly, based on the Pearl index. This is just as reliable as the condom or the classic diaphragm.
The reliability of the diaphragm increases as you become more familiar with the method. We therefore recommend using Caya in combination with your current contraceptive for the first month or, if you are not already using contraception, in combination with a condom. No contraceptive (pill, IUD or condom) offers 100% protection against pregnancy.
How much does the Caya diaphragm cost?
In addition, Caya is an affordable contraceptive, as it lasts up to two years. The Caya diaphragm costs €37.53
Are you going to use a pessary for the first time?
Once you have chosen the Caya diaphragm as your contraceptive method, it is important that you become familiar with the method. Using the diaphragm properly is very important for reliability. Before you start using the diaphragm during intercourse, it is wise to insert the Caya diaphragm several times first and check that the diaphragm is seated properly. This way, you will find out if you are inserting the diaphragm correctly and you will become proficient at it. This will give yourself security when you are going to have intercourse.
If you already use another contraceptive such as the pill or IUD, we advise you to continue using it for the first month and have intercourse together with the Caya diaphragm and the Caya gel. In this way you will become familiar with the method and if something goes wrong or if the diaphragm does not fit properly, you will at least be protected by, for example, the pill or coil. After this month you can only use the Caya diaphragm and the Caya gel. You can continue using the combination of your old contraception and the Caya diaphragm until you feel sufficiently confident.
Not using birth control yet?
In this case, we recommend that you use the Caya diaphragm together with the condom.
This gives extra protection against pregnancy and you are thus also protected against sexually transmitted diseases (STIs).
How to use the Caya diaphragm?
1. If possible, use your current contraception in combination with the Caya diaphragm for the first month. This way you become familiar with using Caya, this increases reliability.
2. Take your time, especially the first time.
3. Remove the Caya® diaphragm from its packaging. Before initial use, clean the Caya® diaphragm with warm soapy water and dry it carefully with a soft, clean cloth.
4. Squeeze the diaphragm together. Apply spermicidal gel, e.g. Caya® Gel, to the center of the diaphragm (approx. 4 ml). Put some gel on the edge this facilitates insertion.

7. Check with a finger through the membrane of the Caya diaphragm that the cervix is covered. The cervix should be completely covered, you can feel this through the membrane and feel like the tip of your nose. If you feel the cervix or do not feel the Caya® pessary: reinsert it. The Caya® sits correctly when the cervix is completely covered by the pessary and lies between the posterior vault and the recess near the pubic bone. If you have checked these two things and the Caya® pessary is properly seated, you are protected against pregnancy. You can now have sexual intercourse.

8. After intercourse, the Caya® diaphragm should remain in place for at least 6 hours.
9. Remove the Caya® diaphragm by pulling on the finger grip.

10. After each use, the diaphragm should be carefully cleaned with soap and water and then dried with a soft and clean cloth. The diaphragm should not be heated to dry it. Synthetic cleaning agents or organic solvents should not be used for this purpose. The Caya® diaphragm should be checked for the following each time it is used and washed: it should not have any small holes or thin spots and the spring ring (rim) should be completely coated with silicone.
Can I have intercourse with the Caya® pessary multiple times in a row?
Yes, do not remove the Caya® diaphragm and use an applicator to insert additional Caya gel before the inserted Caya®.

Note:
The Caya® diaphragm should never be left in the vagina continuously for more than 24 hours
because prolonged, uninterrupted wearing may promote the growth of bacteria. These bacteria could then result in Toxic Shock Syndrome (TS; toxic shock syndrome).
After treatment of a vaginal infection, the Caya® diaphragm should be replaced with a new one. The Caya® diaphragm is reusable. With proper care and average use, the Caya® diaphragm can be used for two years after its first use. If there are signs of wear and tear, the diaphragm should be replaced immediately. Therefore, note the day of first use on the box of the Caya® diaphragm .
Silicone (oil) based lubricants affect the Caya diaphragm. Use the Caya gel or, if necessary, a water-based lubricant. Store the Caya® diaphragm in the storage box when not in use.
